Proposal & Map

The Wild River Valley is a 70,383-acre roadless area that is located in the northeastern part of the White Mountain National Forest. It includes the outer slopes of the Moriahs, the Carters and Baldface. Wild River runs from Route 2 in the North to Route 16 in the west and to Route 113 in the east.

Our overall 1998 proposal is shown by the purple outline.  The green hatched area has been designated as Wilderness by the New England Wilderness Act of 2006.  The Friends will continue to work with the USFS to protect additional critical areas (shown with red hatching), so they can be considered for Wilderness designation at a later time.  For a high-resolution version please see the map page.
